PoliticsRehabilitation Centres Aid Destitute Beggars in Bengaluru
A young woman from Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, turned to begging after a failed marriage and her husband’s second wedding. Rescued by government agencies, she and her three children now live at the Nirashritara Parihara Kendra rehabilitation centre in Bengaluru. The centre, run by the central relief committee under the social welfare department, houses 875 inmates. The CRC operates 14 centres across Karnataka, helping beggars transition to stable livelihoods.
