WorldNepal Faces Massive Reconstruction After Devastating Floods
A severe flood in Nepal's Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river basin caused extensive damage, killing many and destroying villages, infrastructure, agricultural heritage, and cultural sites. Thirteen hydropower projects with over 700 MW capacity were severely damaged, costing $1 billion, with reconstruction expected to be four times higher. The flood also caused significant environmental damage downstream in India, impacting border trade and raising concerns about China’s Belt and Road projects.
