ScienceIndia Develops Indigenous Technology for Climate-Friendly Refrigerants
India's rising cooling demand due to higher temperatures and urbanization is increasing the need for refrigerants with lower global warming potential (GWP). After ratifying the Kigali Amendment in 2021, India plans to freeze HFC production by 2028. Scientists at CSIR-IICT Hyderabad have developed an indigenous process for producing HFO-1234yf, reducing import dependence and boosting domestic refrigerant manufacturing capabilities.
