BusinessIFAD Chief Urges India to Diversify Rural Income Beyond Farming
International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) President Alvaro Lario emphasized that India must look beyond farming to create decent jobs and raise rural household incomes. With many rural families relying on multiple livelihoods, IFAD's new eight-year strategy will target poorer states, 112 aspirational districts, and climate-affected regions to support three million rural households, about 13 million people. Lario also highlighted climate adaptation, better rural program implementation, private investment's role, and risks of higher global food prices until 2027.
