Forest Department Tracks Animal in Hasanur Worker Death

The Forest Department has intensified efforts to track the animal suspected of killing 36-year-old daily-wage worker V. Periyasamy near Hasanur in Erode district. Camera traps were installed at four locations, drones deployed, and night patrols increased along forest fringes. The partially consumed body was found near a stream in the Hasanur Range of the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve on October 4, 2026. Residents suspect a leopard, but the department has not confirmed the species.
