Fatal Manja Incident in Hubballi Highlights Kite String Ban Failure

Vidya Manjunath Gowdar, a 38-year-old lab technician, died in Hubballi on October 22 after a razor-sharp synthetic kite string (manja) slit her throat while she was riding her two-wheeler. Despite an existing ban and warnings, dangerous manja strings remain a public hazard, causing fatal injuries to motorists and harm to birds. Police have registered cases, raided shops, and started removing hazardous strings from public areas.
