With winter's arrival, migratory birds like rosy starlings and Montagu’s harriers settle in Karnataka. Notably, European rollers, usually rare, are now seen in larger numbers across North Karnataka's grasslands and the Western Ghats. This surge is linked to low rainfall in Gujarat and Rajasthan, their usual stopover before Africa. Meanwhile, the Indian roller, Karnataka's state bird, is becoming harder to spot in its native grasslands.
