UPI MDR Fee Implementation Postponed Until After Diwali 2026

The UPI and Services Steering Committee decided to postpone the implementation of the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on select Person-to-Merchant UPI transactions. Originally set for 15 October, the MDR charges will now be applied immediately after Diwali, which falls on 8 November 2026. Until then, UPI transactions over ₹2,000 will remain free for about 20 more days, according to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
