ScienceStudy Urges Redesign of Medical Devices for Reuse and Recycling
A study by the WEEE Forum highlights the growing global challenge of medical e-waste, which often goes unrecycled due to contamination fears. Medical devices like diabetes sensors and drug-delivery systems contain valuable materials such as electronics and metals. The study emphasizes redesigning devices to enable reuse and recycling, as currently much medical e-waste is incinerated, losing recovery opportunities. Annual global e-waste is 62 million tonnes, expected to rise to 82 million tonnes in five years.
