ScienceKarnataka Tiger Population Surpasses 700, New Conservation Challenges Arise
Karnataka's tiger population may have exceeded 700, according to a state-level estimate soon to be finalized, said Chief Wildlife Warden Kumar Pushkar. This rise presents new challenges for wildlife conservation. The state estimate differs from the 2022 All India Tiger Estimation, which counted 563 tigers in Karnataka. The state divided into 51 divisions for the count, with one division pending. The estimate aims to inform policy ahead of the 2024 national report.
