ScienceSouthwest Monsoon Ends as Fourth Weakest Since 2001 in India
The southwest monsoon season ended in India on Wednesday with 12.6% less rainfall than normal, totaling 759.4 mm from June to September. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this is the fourth lowest monsoon rainfall since 2001. Several regions including Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya recorded below-normal rainfall throughout the season, raising concerns due to reduced precipitation and record heat.
