Skull Fractures Suggest Servant Sacrifice with Egypt’s Early Kings
A study of skull fractures on remains from the royal cemetery at Umm el-Qa’ab near Abydos indicates that servants of Egypt’s earliest kings may have been sacrificed upon their rulers' deaths. Bioarchaeologist Roselyn Campbell of Purdue University re-examined skulls excavated a century ago. The findings were published on October 5, 2026, in Frontiers in Environmental Archaeology and reported by The Guardian.
