Sankoo Becomes Ladakh's 8th District with Separate Hill Council

Ladakh has created its eighth district, Sankoo, carved out from Kargil, fulfilling long-standing local demands. Sankoo will serve as the district headquarters and include four tehsils: Sankoo, GM Pore, TSG, and Taisuru. The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) for Sankoo has also been notified, though elections will be held later. This decision was announced by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena during his visit to Sankoo.
