Rwanda Researchers Develop Durable Tiles from Plastic Waste and Sisal

Researchers at Rwanda Polytechnic-Ngoma College created durable tiles using recycled plastics including HDPE, PET, polypropylene, PVC, and polystyrene combined with sand, marble chips, cement, and sisal fiber. The strongest tile formulation with 5% sisal achieved a compressive strength of 41.66 MPa and showed very low water absorption of 0.225% after 24 hours, demonstrating potential for sustainable construction materials.
