RBI MPC Raises Repo Rate to 5.5%, Near-Term Cuts Unlikely
The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee unanimously raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5% from 5.25% during its October 5-7 meeting. The stance shifted to 'calibrated tightening.' The Standing Deposit Facility rate was set at 5.25%, and the Marginal Standing Facility and bank rates at 5.75%. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated that a near-term rate cut is unlikely, with future moves depending on economic growth and inflation trends.
