Nafed to Supply 1.9 Lakh Tonnes of Moong from Buffer Stock This Festival Season

To control rising demand and prices of pulses during the festival season, the government has directed Nafed to release about 1.9 lakh tonnes of moong from its 2025 buffer stock by the end of October. Nafed will sell these pulses in the open market to ensure adequate supply. Additionally, a 3.9 lakh tonne 2026 buffer stock is available for future use if needed.

Mangaluru Priest Arrested for Child Sexual Assault; Church Knew Earlier

Father Cyprian Pinto of St Vincent Ferrer Church in Mangaluru, Karnataka, was arrested on October 17 for allegedly sexually abusing minors. Although the FIR was filed two days prior, the Mangalore Diocese officials, including Bishop Peter Paul Saladanha, were aware of the allegations since August 17. The priest faces charges under the POCSO Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Police arrested him from a relative's residence.
