Madras HC: Vijay Asked to Affirm Faith, Not Convert to Hinduism

The Madras High Court clarified that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, a Christian, was only asked to affirm his faith in the presiding deity before entering the Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai, not to convert to Hinduism. The court ruled that non-Hindus must submit an undertaking affirming faith in the deity and agree to follow temple customs to enter Agamic temples in Tamil Nadu.
