An expert committee report revealed that over half of Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board's land acquisition budget was concentrated in Kannur, the home district of former CM Pinarayi Vijayan. KIIFB approved acquiring 5,366 acres costing Rs 12,727 crore, with nearly 4,900 acres in Kannur, a 290% increase. Only 60 acres have been developed, raising concerns about biased distribution and inflated prices.
