The Karnataka High Court struck down the 2022 state law that increased reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). The bench, led by Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice K S Hemalatha, ruled that the increased reservation breached the 50% cap set by the Constitution under Articles 14, 15, and 16. Sections 3 and 4 of the law were declared unconstitutional for violating these provisions.
