Kanpur Police FIR Filed in 35-Year-Old Fake Encounter Case

In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, an FIR has been filed against 12 police officers in a 35-year-old fake encounter case. In 1991, then Maharajpur station officer Vidyasagar Tripathi allegedly framed 12 people, including Rakesh Pathak, in a false highway robbery case after failing to get a free plot. The police had claimed weapons and bombs were recovered post-encounter. A CBCID probe found the encounter and recovery story fabricated. Of 18 accused officers, six have died; FIR now registered against the remaining 12 at Maharajpur police station.
