Italy Receives Over 100 GW Data Centre Connection Requests

Italy's grid operator Terna has received connection requests for nearly 600 data centre projects totaling more than 100 gigawatts (GW), far exceeding the actual capacity to implement them. The requests have increased from 42 GW in May 2023. Most data centres are in Lombardy, with Milan accounting for 68% of power capacity and 23% of European sector investments. About 83 new projects worth €25 billion are expected by 2028.
