BusinessIRDAI Resets Insurance Distribution Costs After 100% FDI Approval
Following the increase of foreign direct investment (FDI) in India's insurance sector from 74% to 100% in February 2026, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) proposed a restructuring of distribution economics. The regulator plans to reduce expenses of management (EoM) limits and commissions, aiming to lower high costs and shift towards technology-driven distribution. Life insurers' EoM ceiling will drop from 30-35% to 15% within two years and 12.5% within five years.
