India and the United States are planning enhanced strategic cooperation in the Indian Ocean to develop critical infrastructure such as ports and telecommunications in Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Mauritius. This partnership, under the Indian Ocean Strategic Venture (IOSV) launched by PM Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump in February 2025, will focus on maritime security, digital infrastructure including 6G, and combating illegal fishing, human trafficking, and narcotics trade.
