The Indian government has temporarily stopped blending ethanol made from sugarcane products into petrol to maintain domestic sugar availability. Public sector oil companies excluded ethanol from sugarcane juice, syrup, and B-heavy molasses in their 2026-27 supply tender. However, ethanol from corn, broken rice, surplus rice from FCI, and C-heavy molasses remains eligible. The incentive for corn-based ethanol was reduced to ₹68.86 per litre from ₹71.86. The tender seeks about 1,100 crore litres of ethanol starting November to meet the 20% blending target.
