The Indian government has extended the customs duty exemption on cotton imports until the end of December 2026. This move aims to support the textile industry amid low daily cotton arrivals of under 70,000 bales since October 2026. Ashwin Chandran, chairman of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, said the exemption will boost the sector's global competitiveness as it targets $100 billion in exports by 2030.
