A study published in The Lancet Global Health reveals that over 90% of global deaths and disability from chewing tobacco occur in just 10 countries, including India, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, and the US. In 2023, chewing tobacco caused an estimated 251,000 deaths worldwide, with 241 million users, mostly aged 60 to 64. South Asia is identified as the epicenter of this health issue.
