Gael Monfils, the 40-year-old French tennis star known for his showmanship, has apparently retired early. Despite receiving a wild-card for the ATP Masters in Paris, he is listed as "inactive" by the International Tennis Integrity Agency as of October 5, making him ineligible for professional play. He also withdrew from an exhibition in Lyon citing personal reasons. Monfils has not officially confirmed retirement but would need six months of drug-testing clearance to return.
