More than 18,000 Agniveers from the first batch under the Agnipath scheme will leave the Indian armed forces by December 31 after completing their four-year tenure. The navy, air force, and army will release 75% of these recruits in phases starting mid-November. The scheme, introduced in 2022, aims to keep forces young by recruiting soldiers for four years, retaining only 25% for longer service.
