HealthExtreme Heat Increases Pregnancy Risks, Survey Finds
A global survey ahead of COP31 reveals that extreme heat is increasingly affecting pregnant women, newborns, and maternity services worldwide. In 33 countries, July was the hottest on record this year. The Wellcome Foundation study found 73% of maternal healthcare workers reported more heat-related complications in pregnant women, and 76% noted increased risks to fetal or newborn health over the past five years. UN climate officials link extreme heat to premature births and low birth weight.
