August Hanning, former head of Germany's foreign intelligence service BND, was arrested on suspicion of attempted treason and espionage. Prosecutors allege he paid a former BND manager for about 2,000 secret documents to prepare an analysis for a foreign spy service. Both Hanning and the manager, Manfred D., were detained and are to appear before the Federal Court of Justice.
