HealthDrought Worsens Fodder Scarcity for Karnataka Farmers
In Karnataka's Gangavati taluk, cowherd Krishnappa Katapur and his family migrated 200 km to Haveri taluk with over 400 cattle due to fodder scarcity caused by delayed paddy sowing and dried crops. Many in Koppal district have also left seeking green fodder amid severe drought and low Tungabhadra dam water levels. Despite 142 lakh tonnes of dry fodder stock, farmers say it is insufficient for 93 lakh cattle and 1.93 crore goats and sheep, impacting milk production.
