HAL Excluded from India's 5th Generation Fighter Jet Project

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has been excluded from the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project, marking the first time HAL is not involved in an indigenous fighter jet project. Defense Secretary R.K. Singh cited unmet technical requirements for HAL's exclusion. Now, three private consortia—Tata Advanced Systems, L&T-Bell-Dynamatic, and Bharat Forge-BEML-Data Patterns—are competing to build prototypes. The first AMCA prototype is expected to fly by September 2028.
