Costa Rica has withdrawn its application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and dismissed its foreign trade minister, Indiana Trejos, due to lack of transparency, President Laura Fernandez announced. The decision followed protests from agricultural producers. The CPTPP is a trade bloc of 12 nations representing nearly 15% of global GDP. Costa Rica had applied in 2022 and held over 100 meetings to build consensus.
