Cornell Develops Tomatoes That Change Color to Signal Low Nitrogen
Scientists at Cornell University have created genetically engineered tomato plants named RedAlert that change from red to purple when nitrogen levels are low. This visible signal helps farmers know when fertiliser is needed. The plants have progressed beyond greenhouse trials and are currently being tested in real-world conditions at Cornell’s Musgrave Research Farm in Aurora, New York.
