BusinessCentre Tightens Sugar Stock Limits for Dealers Amid Festive Demand
The Indian government has imposed stricter stockholding limits on sugar dealers starting October 15 to ensure sufficient sugar availability at reasonable prices during the peak festive season. Dealers can hold sugar stocks for no more than 15 days or 1,000 quintals at any location until November 30. Exceptions apply to Kolkata, its metro areas, and Assam, where the limit is 2,000 quintals due to supply and logistics. Retail sugar prices have already dropped 15% since August.
