Canadian Study Finds Dark Colors Reduce Seabird Collisions
A Canadian study at a seabird colony found that darker colors and vertical stripes on surfaces significantly reduce bird collisions caused by artificial lighting at night. Vertically striped sheets recorded 2.8 times fewer collisions than plain sheets, and black sheets performed better than white ones. These findings could improve safety for seabirds around coastal buildings, ships, and offshore facilities.
