SC Withholds BMC Commissioner's Salary Over Encroachment Failure

The Supreme Court withheld the salary of BMC Commissioner Ashwini Satish Bhide and issued a contempt notice for failing to remove encroachments on land meant for a BEST bus stand in Borivali, Mumbai. The bench, led by CJI Surya Kant, found her prima facie guilty of contempt and wilful disobedience of court orders. A Rs 5 lakh cost was imposed on BMC, and salary release was restrained.
