Bengaluru doctors have warned about health risks from firecrackers this Deepavali, including eye injuries, respiratory issues, hearing damage, and cardiovascular problems. Minto Ophthalmic Hospital advised wearing shatterproof protective eyewear and suggested mandatory eyewear provision with firecracker purchases worth Rs 500-1,000. Eye injuries peaked at 71 cases in 2024, mostly boys aged 11-18. Bijili crackers caused the most injuries, followed by Lakshmi and atom bombs. Children are especially vulnerable to air pollution from crackers.
