The Water Resources Department (WRD) and Exnora International have begun removing invasive seemai karuvelam (Prosopis Juliflora) plants from six irrigation tanks along the Palar River in Vellore, including Thorapadi, Agaramcheri, Kolamangalam, and Melmanavur. This initiative, prompted by Collector P.S. Leela Alex after farmer requests, aims to increase groundwater and expand farming areas ahead of the Northeast monsoon. About 20 tanks have been identified for this effort.
