Every alternate month, a 100-year-old matha in Halasuru hosts a three-hour workshop where around 20 participants learn Ashokan Brahmi, the script popularized by Emperor Ashoka around 250 BCE. Facilitator Lathashree K S, a public archaeologist, introduces the script's consonants and vowels, its history, and teaches reading inscriptions from the Girnar rock edicts. Participants also learn to write their names in Ashokan Brahmi.
