PoliticsWomen’s March on Versailles in 1789 Changed French Monarchy
On October 5, 1789, thousands of women in Paris marched to the Palace of Versailles protesting bread scarcity and price rises. They forced King Louis XVI and his family to leave Versailles and move to Paris, marking a key event in the French Revolution. Though the monarchy wasn’t abolished immediately, this showed the king’s power was no longer absolute.
