HealthWHO Reports Global Life Expectancy Rebounds but Healthy Years Lag
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that global life expectancy in 2023 has nearly returned to pre-pandemic levels at 73.3 years, close to 73.4 years in 2019. However, healthy life expectancy (HALE) remains lower at 62.8 years, indicating people live longer but not necessarily healthier lives. The pandemic erased a decade of health gains, causing a 1.8-year drop in life expectancy between 2019 and 2021.
