WHO Reports Congo Ebola Outbreak Spreads to Two New Zones
The World Health Organization announced on September 25, 2026, that the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has spread to two new health zones: Bulu in Sud Ubangi and Dungu in Haut-Uele. The total affected zones now number 63 across seven provinces. As of September 23, there were 7,890 confirmed cases and 3,799 deaths. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted challenges due to conflict and displacement hindering response efforts.
