WHO Advises Against Obesity Drugs, Surgery for Children Under 10
The World Health Organization (WHO) released guidelines stating that obesity drugs and bariatric surgery are not recommended for children aged 0-9 years. For adolescents aged 10-19, medicines may be considered only if lifestyle changes fail. Bariatric surgery might be an option for severe obesity with complications like type 2 diabetes or hypertension during adolescence. WHO emphasizes diet, physical activity, and behavior changes instead.
