PoliticsWest Bengal Sets New Distance Rules for Liquor Shops Near Schools and Temples
The West Bengal government has increased the minimum distance for new retail liquor shops from schools and religious sites to 500 metres in urban areas and 1 km in rural parts. Previously, the distance was 300 metres. No new liquor licenses will be granted within these distances. Existing shops relocating to malls are exempt from the rule. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the policy to restrict liquor sales near educational and religious places.
