ScienceWebb Discovers Free-Floating Brown Dwarf Twice Jupiter's Mass
The James Webb Space Telescope identified a free-floating brown dwarf in the IC 348 cluster with about twice Jupiter's mass. This object has an infrared excess from a surrounding disk of planet-forming material. Spectroscopic and spatial evidence suggests it formed like a star rather than being a planet ejected from a system, blurring the line between planets and stars.
