A study of 600 women in over 70 villages across Budgam, Pulwama, and Kupwara districts in Kashmir reveals that despite India's expanding tap-water coverage, rural women still face significant water scarcity. About 95% reported physical and mental exhaustion from water-related work, which reduces their working hours and affects girls' education and menstrual hygiene. Around 83% of households experienced water shortages, with women fetching water in 91.7% of cases.
