Yele Mallappa Chetty Lake in east Bengaluru, spanning 508 acres and 16 guntas, faces ongoing threats from sewage inflow, waste dumping, and encroachments. Despite about 100 cases registered against encroachers and an anti-encroachment drive in April 2022 revealing significant encroachments by government and private parties, no effective action has been taken. Untreated sewage continues to enter the lake due to missing underground drainage links, according to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board's affidavit to the National Green Tribunal.
