BusinessUS Trade Deficit Rises to $105.6 Billion in August on Import Surge
The US trade deficit widened sharply to $105.6 billion in August, up $12.7 billion from July's revised $92.8 billion, driven mainly by a $17.2 billion surge in imports. Exports rose modestly by $4.5 billion to $315.2 billion. The goods deficit increased by $12.8 billion to $136.6 billion, while the services surplus slightly rose to $31 billion. Despite August's rise, the year-to-date deficit remains nearly 20% lower than last year.
