US Lost Nearly 10 Million Acres of Forest from 1990 to 2017
Between 1990 and 2017, the United States permanently lost nearly 10 million acres of forest due to deforestation. Research shows that woodland cleared for development and cropland vanished at a rate of about 350,000 acres annually, equivalent to one football field every two minutes, sustained over 28 years. Eleven states accounted for 70% of this loss.
